Woolly babies

The sun is peeping out and I’ve been felting with the May Day visitors at Kentish Town City Farm where I volunteer. One windy afternoon last year we were trying to felt outdoors as part of a festival. The fleece was lifting off and tangling itself across the grass so we abandoned plans to make felt artwork but felt friendship bracelets were invented! Well, we probably weren’t the first people to invent them but it felt sweet anyway.  Here’s one gorgeous little felter getting ready to make hers…

Meanwhile, over in Stamford Bridge children from Ruth Lunzer primary school were celebrating the Jewish festival  of Lag B’Omer.  …Around 50 families joined in with the felting there, babes in prams, babes in arms, babes on hips, all getting very soapy and woolly. My hands were too soapy to take any pictures! But once I’d cleaned up I managed to check out the Four Seasons felt artwork I’d previously created there with pupils from  Year 1 to Year 6 which is finally on display in the foyer. Yay! It’s a little bit scruffier than when I last saw it but I suppose the children can’t resist touching it.

Watch this space for details of the Keats House Festival coming up at the end of the month where I’ll be running demonstrations and a free felt bag-making workshop.
