My art project with young offenders has come to an end. We explored ways crime has a ripple effect on its victims and their friends and families; on the other hand we looked at ways happiness can be passed onto others. I’m interested in ideas in the Happiness agenda, (see Action for Happiness, an amazing website) for example that helping others and feeling a sense of belonging to a community are some factors which enhance your mental and physical wellbeing. Over several weeks various drop-in teenage participants helped to create this centrecane and felt structure which embodies these ideas of mutual dependence.
Here it is, hanging in a garden in the estates. It would have been great to leave it there, suspended from a tree but it’s destined to be displayed somewhere at some point (and would definitely have got mashed up!)
