Loving Valentines Mansion

Valentines Mansion is a 300 year old period house in Ilford set in a Victorian garden. What a perfect venue for an introduction to feltmaking course. We began with sketches of the period architectural features and delicious vintage wallpaper, moulded fireplaces and  sweeping stairwell. Choosing an image to translate into felt was one of the trickier decisions of the afternoon, but soon the creative juices started to flow with participants selecting shades of wool to blend for their felt paintings. Below are Carol and Pat’s beautiful avian interpretations.

During the second part of the afternoon I showed everyone how to develop surface techniques to create a more abstracted collage effect, incorporating silk sari offcuts and other textile samples.

There were some very kind words on the evaluation forms but this one especially made a wonderful day spent in good company even more satisfying: “I loved the opportunity to experiment. An excellent teacher”.
